O-Duathlon

Looking for something more challenging and adventurous than racing around a circuit over and over?

Looking to put your endurance to the test? The O-Duathlon event is for you! O-Duathlon is an exciting combination of navigation based running and mountain biking, on awesome dedicated single tracks and through amazing native bush.

When: 1st of December, 2019

Where: Lakes Entrance, East Gippsland

Who: Individual competitors

Course

The course consists of three legs and it usually takes between 2.5 and 3.5 hours, depending on your level; incredibly, if you want to win you’ll need to finish in around 1hr and 40 mins!

The course is kept secret until the day of the race, where you’ll only receive the map of the first run leg at the starting line. Specially prepared colour maps will be used with all checkpoints pre-marked but you’ll only receive the next leg map as you pass through the transition area so you’re going to be planning your route as you go. The navigation is quite straight forward and anyone capable of using a map to get to the event is more than able to complete this race without getting lost! If you have not competed in navigation sports before, we suggest you get your water and food ready to race for 3 hours.

There are three legs: A 4km run, followed by a 20km ride and finally another 4km run. During the first and third running legs you can pick up the checkpoints marked on your map in any order, while you’ll need to complete the checkpoints in the biking leg in order.

What you’ll need:

Apart from your standard running and mountain biking gear, you’ll need a compass and a map board, both of which are available for hire at registration. The only other thing you’ll need is your sense of adventure!
